While Leadership is one of the most talked about entrepreneurial topic, Co-leadership is very rarely discussed & preferred.
Today, when I co-lead Flitpay with Akash Bansal, I wonder why co-leadership is not encouraged that much.
Thinking about leadership often gets constrained to one person steering the ship. But two people with complementary skills at helm can really pay off better.
Co-leadership brings the duality in perspective of ideas & innovation that doubles your approach towards everything as an entity.
Leaders get better because of one another because they get benefitted from a never ending loop of resilience.
When one feels down, the other is up.
When one feels tired, other one maintains excitement.
When one be yin, other will be his yang.
Offcourse, there are downsides too.
Decision making can get slower.
Team can get confused to figure out one point of contact.
But all of it can be avoided by setting clear division of work & responsibilities. Co-leading can be fun with the right mix of mutual understanding and respect.
Akash’s and my co-leadership style works because we divide tasks according to our strengths & weaknesses. We trust each other’s perspective even when- in fact, especially when we don't agree.
What’s better between Solidary leadership and Co-leadership according to you?
