BEWARE!!
Recently, a job scam made headlines when 13 Indians trapped in a fake IT job racket in Thailand were rescued and returned to Tamil Nadu. They along with many others were forced to work for a crypto scam after being lured with offers of Thailand-based high-paying IT jobs. These hostages were forcefully ordered to pretend to be girls and chat with people to get them to buy cryptocurrencies.
The news paves the necessity for me to write this post.
Crypto scamming is a growing phenomenon, and unawareness fuels it the most. If you give it a thought you will realize that scamming can never succeed one-sidedly because it requires two hands to clap. Thus, to prevent innocent job seekers and others from falling for crypto scams, it is important to aware the population about them.
Here are some strict red flags to look out for -
1. If anyone asks to invest in an unfamiliar, less heard, or any freshly new cryptocurrency, strictly avoid it. Do not invest even a penny in something without researching it well.
2. Beware of jobs offering abnormally high salaries, especially in countries like Myanmar, Thailand, China, etc. If the salary offered is way higher than the other recruiters, it will likely be associated with scams.
3. Dating apps are a new hotspot for crypto scammers. About 20% of the money lost in romance scams in the past year was through crypto. Hence, keep your investments and love interests as separate as possible.
4. Extortion scams also exist where scammers blackmail by tricking the victims into thinking that they have their private information. For example, they might show you your old password to make you believe that the threat is real. Do not be afraid and report such scammers immediately.
There must be many other red flags some of you may have experienced. Add them in the comments to aware others of it.
